New Jersey uses 300% more plastic than before plastic bag ban: study

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- New Jersey is now using more plastic than before, despite the ban on plastic bags enacted two years ago, according to a new study.
The study showed a whopping 300% surge in plastic consumption in the state. This increase in plastic, reportedly coming from the manufacturing of alternative bags. They're sold in places like restaurants and grocery stores, where customers can buy bags if they forget to bring their own.
According to the report, most of these alternative bags are not made with a material that is widely recycled in the united states.
