New Jersey snack company scores deal on ‘Shark Tank’

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (PIX11)- A small New Jersey business garners national attention, even inking a deal on "Shark Tank."

Steven Atieh and Allison Lin are brother and sister turned business partners. The Basking Ridge natives are the co-founders of Like Air puffcorn, a popcorn alternative that melts in your mouth.

“We’ve heard from so many of our customers that [they] didn’t know this snack company existed right in New Jersey, so it’s very cool,” said Atieh.

“It really is that perfect snack,” said Lin, a mom of two. “It’s school safe. It’s great for kids. It’s not a choking hazard.”

After launching on Amazon in 2020, Atieh and Lin went around to family-owned grocery stores across the tri-state, asking them to give their snack a shot.

“We just kind of walked in and pitched our product, and a lot of them were receptive,” said Atieh.

One of those stores was Uncle Giuseppe’s Market in Morris Plains.

“We’re all about helping local businesses, so this being a local business, it does wonders for our store,” said assistant store manager Amanda Finnland.

Like Air recently won over some tougher critics: Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban, two of the ‘sharks’ on "Shark Tank."

“We doubled [sales] the week after [the episode aired] in many of our retailers,” said Atieh.

Like Air is now in grocery stores nationwide, with more retailers on the way.

“It’s really my personal goal to get Like Air into every school lunch in America,” said Lin.
