AYODHYA: A new road corridor will be developed for the Ram temple in
Ayodhya
for better crowd management during the festival period. To be called
Sugriva Path
, the 290-metre-long stretch would complete a rectangular circuit to facilitate movement of devotees between
Hanuman Garhi
and Ram temple complex.
A budget of Rs 11.81 crore has been sanctioned by the state govt to expedite work on the project and a timeline of four months has been set for completion of work. According to the estimates prepared by the
public works department
, out of the total budget about Rs 5.1 crore would be required for acquiring the land.
Besides Hanuman Garhi, two more religious establishments would have to give away a portion of their land for the development of the greenfield road. The overall width of the corridor would be 12mt with a carriageway of 7mt for the movement of motor vehicles. "The remaining area would be used for developing walkways on both sides. Underground ducts and drains would be created considering future needs," said PWD executive engineer
Shashi Bhushan Singh
, who is supervising the project.
Officials said that talks are on for acquisition of private properties and meetings are taking place between the property owners and local administration. "A team has been deputed to speed up the road project. A need for another corridor is being felt for circulatory movement of devotees between Hanuman Garhi and Ram temple complex," said divisional commissioner of Ayodhya, Gaurav Dayal.
In the past, the 780-metre-long Bhakti Path was constructed to facilitate movement between Hanuman Garhi and the Ram temple complex and adding another road would help in streamlining the movement of pedestrians between the two extremely popular religious spots as separate routes would be earmarked for entry and exit of devotees.
The administration is preparing to handle a rush of 2.5-3 lakh devotees on important festivals.
