NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City has launched a new tool to protect students on their commute to and from schools.

The Department of Education said the new NYC school bus app provides real-time tracking of yellow school buses. Parents can see the exact location of the bus their children are taking as it moves along the route.

They can log into the app using their NYC school account and the student's ID number. More than 75% of buses in the public school system have joined the app.

Parents can also make a request to their school if a certain route is not available for tracking.

Around 150,000 students take the school bus daily in New York City, according to officials.
