NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Nearly half of New Yorkers oppose Mayor Eric Adams’ charges being dropped, according to a recent PIX11 poll.
An exclusive poll from PIX11 News, Emerson College and The Hill shows that 49% of voters said they would oppose the Justice Department dropping Adams’ corruption case.
Some 27% of voters said they support the case being dropped, and another 24% said they have no opinion.
In a memo Monday, Justice Department officials directed prosecutors to drop Adams' federal case. Adams was charged in September with bribery, wire fraud and solicitation of contribution by a foreign government.
The case can be reviewed again after the 2025 mayoral election, according to the memo.
President Donald Trump previously said he would consider pardoning Adams once in office.
"The Department of Justice has reevaluated this case and determined it should not go forward. There is good reason for that," Adams' lawyer Alex Spiro said in a statement. "As I said from the outset, the mayor is innocent—and he would prevail. Today he has."
The request has triggered a firestorm of opposition from elected officials. Public Advocate Jumaane Williams accused Adams of selling out "marginalized New Yorkers" for his benefit.
"[Adams] said he wanted his day in court, but instead sidestepped that system using the privilege and power that so few people have access to. This is obscene and obvious – the White House doesn’t want to lose their deputy in New York City," Williams said.
Only 10% of voters polled by PIX11 said they would favor Adams in the 2025 Democratic Primary, while 33% said they favor Andrew Cuomo.
