Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah was reduced to tears after Jasprit Bumrah's heroics with the ball pushed Pakistan to the verge of elimination in the T20 World Cup. Despite Naseem's commendable three-wicket haul which restricted India to a modest total of 119 runs, Pakistan's hopes crumbled under pressure, culminating in a heartbreaking loss. Naseem’s emotional outburst post-match highlighted the agony of seeing his efforts go in vain as his team faltered during the chase.
Even Naseem Shah, our young bowler, played better than our highly paid batsmen. The time has come, if you’re not performing well, please resign gracefully and let others join. It’s time to take strict decisions, or they’ll never understand. #PakvsIndpic.twitter.com/kkV9LZntFX — Saad Kaiser ðµð° (@TheSaadKaiser) June 9, 2024
With India defending a paltry 119, the onus was on their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah to deliver. And deliver he did. Bumrah, reading the pitch expertly, bowled a series of game-changing overs that stifled the Pakistani batsmen. His figures of 3 for 14, including 15 dot balls, were pivotal in turning the tide in India's favor. Every delivery from Bumrah increased the pressure on Pakistan, ultimately leading to their downfall. Pakistan appeared poised for victory, needing 48 runs with eight wickets in hand. However, Jasprit Bumrah's (3/14) and Hardik Pandya's (2/24) incisive spells triggered a dramatic collapse, leaving Pakistan stranded at 113 for seven in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh held his nerve in the final over to seal the victory for India.
IND v PAK, T20 World Cup: Highlights
Despite fumbles in the field, including dropped catches and a mid-innings collapse, India prevailed. For Pakistan, the match was a tale of missed opportunities and strategic blunders. At the halfway mark, they appeared comfortable, but a conservative approach during the chase proved costly. Babar Azam’s early aggression was halted by his untimely dismissal, leaving Mohammad Rizwan to anchor the innings. However, Rizwan’s reluctance to accelerate, compounded by multiple blows to his gloves, stalled the run flow. Fakhar Zaman showed promise but his departure added to the mounting pressure. As wickets tumbled, Pakistan’s middle order buckled, unable to capitalize on loose deliveries. The inability to rotate the strike and find boundaries in critical junctures led to a dramatic collapse, putting their World Cup campaign in jeopardy.
