Director
Nandini Reddy
shared heartfelt praise for actress
Nithya Menen
for not participating in a drinking scene. In a recent video clip,
Nandini
highlighted a pivotal moment in their professional journey together. The acclaimed director reminisced about an incident during the making of their debut film, ‘Ala Modalaindi,’ released in 2011. The movie featured
Nani
and marked
Nithya
Menen's entry into Telugu cinema.
According to Nandini, the producers insisted on including a scene where Nithya's character had to portray intoxication. However, Nithya, even in the early stages of her career, took a principled stand against it.
Nandini Reddy narrated in a YouTube interview that she was asked to write a scene where Nithya gets drunk. But Nithya told Nandini that she would not do it without even thinking twice. In return, Nithya asked Nandini, ‘Do you think it is right to do so?’. Nandini was so shocked. She wanted to finish the film but had no choice in front of Nithya’s self-realization. She was just 21 at that time, a recent college graduate, not having done any films and nothing. But her courage to clearly state that she would not do that scene was a mind-opener for Nandini.
Nandini realized that if a girl at her age could say something like this, it was time to stand up for herself too. She told the producer that she would not do that scene, and he could decide what to do next. She felt so satisfied for standing up for herself for the first time. The film, ‘Ala Modalaindi,’ was a significant success. The collaboration continued with the film ‘Jabardasth.’ Nandini said that such an opinionative and bold act of Nithya helped her to understand the power of self-worthiness.
