VADODARA: A 23-year-old's craving to hit the roads with an

SUV

despite not knowing car driving led to the death of a 40-year-old housewife and her husband critically injured when he crashed the vehicle into the couple taking a leisure

walk

post dinner in Sama late on Sunday night.
The youngster, Dhruva Kanojiya, who set off with his brother-in-law's SUV was at the wheel for a kilometer before hitting a rickshaw and then knocking down the couple near Preet Party Plot at around 11pm.

Kanojia then rammed the vehicle into the dwarf wall of the Empire

Hospital

at a high speed and hit a light pole in the hospital's parking area before turning one side.
Kanojia managed to come out of the vehicle and escape, but he was caught on Monday. Fortunately, the Empire Hospital's parking area was vacant and the traffic on the Chhani Canal Road where the

accident

occurred was also thin.
The debris of the damaged parts of the car as well as the structures it brought down in the hospital premises were strewn around the accident site.

Shilpa (40) died on the spot and her body was taken to the SSG Hospital (SSGH). Vipul, construction contractor, was rushed to a private hospital with serious injuries.
Details that emerged later revealed that the SUV was speeding at a very high speed.
Sama police said Kanojiya has a laundry and the Mahindra Scorpio SUV was owned by his sister's husband who had left it at his house for one week.
Police arrested Kanojia, a resident of Sama, after tracing the owner from the registration number plate and booked him for causing death due to negligence, causing grievous hurt, rash driving other relevant sections of the IPC.
Assistant commissioner of police GB Bambhania told media persons on Monday evening that the Kanojiya did not know how to drive, but decided to try his hand at the SUV. "Kanojiya has claimed that he pressed the accelerator instead of the brake in panic," Bambhania said
