is on the verge of securing a spot in the main draw of the

Australian Open

after advancing to the final round of the qualifying tournament in Melbourne.
Nagal secured a convincing victory over Australian wild card

Edward Winter

, with a score of 6-3, 6-2, in a match that lasted one hour and four minutes at the

KIA Arena

on Thursday.


Currently ranked 139th in the world in singles, the 26-year-old Indian is set to face Slovakia's

Alex Molcan

in the final round on Friday.

A win in this crucial match would mark Nagal's entry into the main round of a

Grand Slam

event for the first time since 2021 and his fourth overall.
Previously, he successfully reached the main round of the US Open in 2019 and 2020, and the Australian Open in 2021. Nagal aims to continue his impressive performance and secure a place in the season-opening Grand Slam proper.
