LUDHIANA: With a string of mobile phone and tobacco recovery cases, security at the Central
Jail
has been a moot point. However, a full blown
birthday party
was unexpected. After the accused in a murder case held a birthday party with
inmates
, officials said that they registered a case against the accused.
Sources said that Arun aka Mani Rana of Una district in Himachal Pradesh held a birthday party with 15 to 20 inmates of the same barrack.
They made pakoras and chai inside the barrack, which has a cooking facility. Not only did Mani celebrate his birthday inside the barrack, he also recorded a
video
, which went viral. In the 41 seconds clip, an inmate is seen dancing to the famous Punjabi singer’s song while others are seen wishing Mani a happy birthday.
Sources said that when jail authorities came to know about the incident, they conducted a search inside the jail but the inmates broke the mobile phone.
Jail officials said that they saw the video once it went viral on social media. Authorities identified six more inmates other than the accused in the video and sent their names to the police.
They have been identified as Harwinder Singh, Saajanpreet Singh, Karanjot Singh, Harmandeep Singh, Satkar Singh and Gurjant Singh. Authorities clarified that though making pakoras and tea inside the barrack is allowed, the offence of the accused was the possession and use of a mobile phone.
Jail superintendent Shivraj Singh Nandgarh said that the video is 15 days old. He added that he took immediate action when he came to know about it.
