BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – The Bronx’s Multiplex Cinemas location will close permanently at the end of May, making it the third Multiplex location to shutter in just two months.
The Concourse Plaza theater on East 161st Street will shut its doors on May 28. It was not immediately clear why the theater would close – representatives of the theater attributed the closure to a “business decision.”
“It has been our pleasure to serve the Bronx community with great movie-going for many years,” a representative of the theater wrote on its website. “We truly thank you for your dedicated patronage and hope you've created special movie memories with us.”
Multiplex Cinemas is shedding a number of its New York City locations, including its College Point theater in Queens, which closes on May 7, and its Jamaica location, which closes on April 30.
The chain also closed its Linden Boulevard location in Brooklyn at the beginning of this year, according to the theater’s Facebook page.
Hundreds took to social media to lament the Bronx closure.
This was still my favorite place to go to mid-day and catch a movie before the crowds. I grew up with this theater back when the ground floor had many booths and you can take photos or get mirror name chains! Truly hate to see it go,” wrote one patron.
