BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Multiple people were injured in an explosion at a home in Brooklyn Thursday night, officials said.
The explosion happened in the basement of a home in East Flatbush at 790 East 37th St., between Foster Avenue and Farragut Road, around 8:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.
Three people were seriously injured in the explosion, according to FDNY Assistant Chief Tom Currao. He said two victims were hospitalized with burns, and a third victim was hospitalized with cuts and contusions.
The FDNY is investigating the cause of the explosion.
“Quite a powerful explosion. Ripped right through the dwelling, as well as caused significant damage to the rear of the dwelling,” Currao said.
Some of the home's windows were blown out. Shattered glass could be seen on the street.
Currao said authorities are concerned about the structural stability of the home after the explosion. As a precaution, they evacuated people from two attached homes to the left and right of the damaged home.
A neighbor in the area told PIX11 News she heard the explosion and felt her home shake.
