Bicholim: The gram sabhas of Mulgao and Advalpal panchayats on Sunday witnessed heated discussions on the mining issue. While Mulgao residents firmly opposed mining, Advapal locals supported mining.
In Mulgao, former
sarpanch Vasant Gad
along with the locals passed a resolution to call a special meeting to discuss the issue of mining and to pass a resolution to shut mining activities in the village. He said that although mining activities have restarted in the village it has not benefitted the locals.
At Advalpal, large numbers of local were present for the gram sabha. The mining dependants and truck operators said that they need the mining activities in the village and hence the panchayat should not withdraw the NOC given for operation of mining operations.
