NEW YORK (PIX11) – An official start date for congestion pricing in Manhattan has been set, according to the MTA.
Congestion pricing is set to begin on June 30.
Cars entering Manhattan's Central Business District below 60th Street between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. will be charged a $15 toll once a day. Trucks and buses could be charged anywhere from $24 to $36 depending on their size.
There will also be credits for those entering the Queens-Midtown, Hugh L. Carey, Holland and Lincoln tunnels.
People making no more than $50,000 a year can get a discount on congestion pricing. Emergency vehicles, school buses and commuting buses are exempt from congestion pricing, according to the MTA.
Several lawsuits are being played out in the courts to try and stop congestion pricing from going into effect. Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella, United Federation of Teachers and the state of New Jersey are all suing the MTA over congestion pricing.
Some lawmakers are also fighting to repeal congestion pricing.
