NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The MTA is expanding its crackdown on drivers who illegally park in bus lanes.
The MTA’s new automated enforcement cameras will be added to two more bus routes in Manhattan: the M2 and M4 routes.
Once affixed to the buses, the cameras will catch drivers who block bus stops, illegally double park and improperly use the lane.
Starting April 28, drivers caught by the cameras will receive a warning. After a 60-day warning period ends, violators will get summonses starting ranging from $50 to $250 for multiple offenses.
The cameras are already monitoring 34 bus routes. Routes with camera enforcement have sped up and seen reduced collisions, according to the MTA.
