MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) --- An MTA bus driver disarmed a knife-wielding passenger who attacked him on the bus on Saturday afternoon, according to police and the MTA.
Rashon Eagle, 43, allegedly punched the 58-year-old driver in the face on the M15 bus while it was stopped near Whitehall and South streets in Lower Manhattan at around noon, officials said. The suspect was mad because the bus was stuck in traffic on Madison and Catherine Streets when he began yelling at the bus driver to go faster, officials said.
Eagle pulled a knife on the victim, who was able to restrain the passenger until police arrived, according to the MTA.
The driver suffered facial injuries and was treated at the hospital.
Eagle, a Staten Island resident, was charged with assault and criminal construction of breathing, police said.
"The attack on a bus operator was outrageous, utterly unacceptable, and could easily have turned tragic," NYC Transit SVP, Buses Frank Annicaro said in a statement.
