NEW DELHI:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
was dismissed for the first time in
IPL 2024
when he was run out on the last ball of the Chennai Super Kings innings against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
In the final couple of overs, Dhoni hit a six and a four before being run out on the last ball of the innings, scoring 14 runs off 11 balls.
Prior to today's game, the wicketkeeper-batter had remained unbeaten in seven matches, amassing 96 runs at an impressive strike rate of nearly 260.
In the last delivery of the CSK innings, Dhoni struck Arshdeep Singh, took a single, and attempted a second run. However, a flat throw from Harshal Patel towards the keeper's end left Dhoni short by a few inches. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma gathered the ball and hit the stumps.
Dhoni didn't even look at the umpire and silently walked back to the pavilion.
In the 10 matches Dhoni has played so far in the tournament, he has scored 110 runs with an average of 110.00.
The 42-year-old has batted with a strike rate of 229.16 in IPL 2024.
