Elon Musk-owned
X
(formerly
) announced
monetisation
plans last year. As per the company, content creators with premium subscriptions can post videos and long form texts to monetise them. The company also gave away millions in cuts it generated through advertising. However,
MrBeast
– who is among the most popular YouTubers in the world – was not interested in posting his content on the social media platform.
But after a brief conversation with Musk, he posted a
video
on X to see how much
ad revenue
he would make.
What is MrBeast-Musk ‘issue’
It all started around two weeks ago when MrBeast said in a post that he had uploaded a video on his other social platforms and that users should go and watch it. Replying to his post, a user said that he should post videos on X to monetise them.
“Yeah,” Musk said, joining the conversation. However, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, said, “My videos cost millions to make and even if they got a billion views on X it wouldn't fund a fraction of it.”
“I'm down though to test stuff once monetization is really cranking!” added MrBeast, who said in an interview in 2022 that his video production has a massive budget. He said that he could be doing cheaper videos but he doesn't want to and “want to push the boundaries to go bigger, bigger.”
MrBeast posts video on X
Taking the brief conversion with Musk forward, MrBeast has now posted a video on X.
“$1 Car vs $100,000,000 Car!!!,” he said in a post that has a full-length video.
“I’m curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make so I’m reuploading this to test it. Will share ad rev next week,” he added. To this, Musk replied, “First MrBeast video posted directly on 𝕏!” essentially boosting the viewership of the video.
Last year, Musk said the first set of payments to creators totalled $5 million, with some users reporting large payouts.
