BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – Concourse Plaza may have lost its Multiplex location, but it’s not likely to lose a movie theater altogether.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson said the building’s landlord is committed to replacing Multiplex with another theater.
“Following conversations with the landlord, I was pleased to learn that they understand the importance of a cinema at this location and remain committed to installing a new movie theater tenant as soon as possible,” Gibson said in a statement.
The loss of the Multiplex Cinemas location – which officially closed on Tuesday – left the Bronx with just one remaining open theater.
“I am disappointed that the Concourse Multiplex Cinema has closed permanently. Their departure leaves only one movie theater left in The Bronx and one less safe, family-oriented community space for Bronxites to enjoy,” Gibson said.
Multiplex locations in College Point and Queens also closed earlier this year, as did a location in Brooklyn.
“It has been our pleasure to serve the Bronx community with great movie-going for many years,” a theater representative wrote on its website in April. “We truly thank you for your dedicated patronage and hope you’ve created special movie memories with us.”
