BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Police said the shooting death of 19-year-old Christian Montrose in Canarsie, Brooklyn, was a case of mistaken identity.
"This is a good kid. He's got no arrests, when you speak to everybody, no gang, no drugs, he doesn't even drink alcohol,” said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny. “He's basically a good kid who, unfortunately, resides in an area where we've had some significant gang violence."
Kenny said it is likely the shooter followed Montrose home or saw him while circling the neighborhood.
The shooting happened around 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday in front of the family's home on East 104th Street in Canarsie.
Police said the suspect or suspects were driving a Black Acura that was reported stolen from the Bronx.
Thursday night, Montrose's mother, Annett Montrose, told PIX11 News she is struggling to understand.
"How could you mistake my son for someone else when he doesn't go anywhere? He doesn't go nowhere? Why would you mistake my son?” she asked.
Annett thanked the NYPD detectives for their attention to her son's case and the community's support.
As for the suspect or suspects,
"I just want these people to pay for what they did to my child. I really just want them to pay," she said.
