Mother and son sentenced to life for murder in Karnataka's Madikeri

MADIKERI: The Principal District and Sessions Court has sentenced Tarini (46) and her son Dharani Kumar (22) to life imprisonment for murdering Utharkumar, a villager from Peraje. Each of the accused was also fined Rs 1 lakh and given 3 years' imprisonment with a Rs 10,000 fine for destroying evidence. The incident took place on May 8, 2020, when
Tarini and Dharani Kumar
got into a fight with Utharkumar. The argument turned violent, and they attacked him with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot. The police, led by then-Police Inspector Diwakar, arrested the two on May 9, 2020. The charge sheet was filed on July 17, 2020. On December 12, 2024, Principal District and Sessions Judge Hosamani Pundalik announced the sentence. Public Prosecutor K.G. Ashwini represented the government during the trial, according to Kodagu SP K Ramarajan.
