and captain
Shreyas Iyer
.
Morgan, an IPL expert with JIO Cinema, shared his views during an interaction, expressing confidence in the impact of bringing back Gambhir, a two-time title-winning captain, as a mentor.
He believes that Gambhir's winning mentality, coupled with Iyer's leadership, will play a crucial role in steering KKR to success.
"Gambhir along with Shreyas will be mentoring KKR in every facet, and given the record that he's had in the Knight Rider shirt, I think it will make a positive impact," Morgan stated.
IPL Auction 2024 Live Updates
Discussing the IPL 2024 auction, Morgan highlighted Australian left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc as a potential hot property. He suggested that Starc could trigger a bidding war between KKR and Gujarat Titans, emphasizing the need for both teams to secure formidable pacers.
"I think Mitchell Starc alongside Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, probably Gerald Coetzee as overseas bowlers will be the most sought after. KKR and GT need good pacers at the moment," Morgan said.
Morgan also predicted that bowlers would be in high demand during the auction, and identified a few batsmen, including England's Harry Brook, Australia's Travis Head, and New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, who could attract attention from bidders.
"I don't see many batters going for huge amounts of money. Brook is going to be in there and will be sought after. Head is going to create a strong buzz, given the last year and a half to two years he has had in all formats of the game," he explained.
Morgan noted that all-rounder Shardul Thakur and uncapped batter Shah Rukh Khan could be among the biggest Indian buys in the auction. He praised Shardul for his all-round abilities and predicted a potential bidding war for Shah Rukh Khan, citing his destructive batting style.
The IPL 2024 auction is set to take place in Dubai, with teams vying to build formidable squads for the upcoming season, which is expected to be played between March 22 and the end of May.
