SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (PIX11) – More human remains belonging to the victims discovered in a Babylon park last week were found at new locations in Suffolk County, police said.
Human remains were found Tuesday in a wooded area across 103 Lakeway Dr. in West Babylon as well as at Bethpage State Park, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The remains are believed to belong to the same victims found at Southards Pond Park in Babylon last Thursday, according to police.
Body parts belonging to a 59-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were found at Southards Pond Park, police said. The victims' last known address was in Yonkers, but it's unclear when they last lived there, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
At least one suspect was in custody Tuesday in connection with the case, a source told PIX11 News.
The deaths of the man and woman appear to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public, police said.
Authorities also executed a search warrant at 25 Railroad Ave. in Amityville on Monday, but no human remains were found during the search, police said.
The investigation began Thursday after a student walking to school discovered a severed left arm at the eastern end of Southards Pond Park, according to police. Various body parts belonging to the victims, including a severed head, were later found at the park during the police investigation.
Police said the body parts found at the park appeared to have been dumped recently. A motive in the case remained unclear.
Investigators are waiting on an autopsy report to reveal more information on the cause of death of both victims.
