Moose on the Loose: In it to win it?

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- So, the Yankees are motivated.

They are all in this season. They have injury issues, with ace Gerrit Cole, who might be out for the first two months of the season and Captain Aaron Judge is dealing with an abdominal injury but could return to spring training games tomorrow.

NCAA Tournament brackets are here. Here’s how to pick your teams

When you look at the starting rotation, the Yankees, with a healthy Cole, were a starter short.

Carlos Rodon has looked great lately. Marcus Stroman, Nestor Cortes, and Clark Schmidt.  The favorite to replace Cole is Luis Gil. I bring all of this up because last night reigning NL y Young Award winner Blake Snell signed with the San Francisco Giants for 2-years and $62 million with an opt-out after his first season.

The Yankees liked Snell, and reportedly offered a six-year deal worth $150 million, which he turned down before they signed Marcus Stroman. He is 30 and pitched to a 2.25 era last season with San Diego with 234 strikeouts. The Yankees engaged his age agent Scott Boras, in the past few but could not lessen the impact of the 110 percent 4th tier tax, for a team above the $297 million threshold.

So, the Yankees may only have Juan Soto for one season.

Their ace is dealing with an elbow issue. But let me get this straight, the Yankees did not want to give up their top prospect Spencer Jones in trade discussions with the Brewers for Corbin Burnes, who ended up with Baltimore.

In a straight cash deal, they did not want to pay the hefty price in salary and tax for Snell.

The Yankees team's valuation is $7.1 billion. Money should not be an issue.

Whatever you think of Blake Snell, it does not matter, the Yankees liked him a lot, after all, he is a former Ray. Sometimes in life, for real change, you must get uncomfortable, and take a gamble and a risk.

The Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009, the Bombers should be desperate, their actions say otherwise.
