NEW YORK (PIX11) -- As the United States, Mexico, and Canada get set to host the World Cup in 2026, it was huge news in the world of soccer Sunday as it was announced that MetLife Stadium will be the host of the World Cup final on July 19, 2026.
FIFA announced rumors that the Cowboys AT&T Stadium in Arlington would get the final. This is fantastic news for all the soccer fans in this area.
The United States men’s national team will open their group stage in Los Angeles on June 12, 2026.
The tri-state area beat out Los Angeles and Dallas to host the final. For North America, the economic impact of hosting the World Cup could reach as much as $5 billion and would help generate roughly 40,000 jobs.
The 39-day event will feature 48 teams, with the finest soccer players in the world representing their nation. MetLife Stadium will have to convert its playing surface to grass, but it can hold 80,000 plus spectators, and there is no better place to host the World Cup final than this area.
Soccer fans are passionate, and as the world game continues to gain more and more popularity in the states, it was the correct decision to have the World Cup final in 2026 at MetLife stadium.
East Rutherford has hosted the Copa America before, and even though it is not in New York City, there will be events in this city surrounding the World Cup and its eventual final.
The biggest soccer stage deserves the biggest stage, and that is New York and New Jersey. Congratulations to all those who made it happen.
