NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Monday is another scorcher in New York City, in fact, it's the hottest day so far this year.
Temperatures hit 95 degrees just before 2 p.m. near Central Park, making it the hottest day of the year in the city, according to the National Weather Service.
It’s not quite record-setting heat, though. The hottest July 8 on record is 100 degrees, which happened in 1993, according to National Weather Service data. The hottest July 9 on record is a whopping 106 degrees.
The average temperature for July in 2023 was just under 80 degrees, but this week has proven hot in New York City, with temperatures consistently reaching 90 degrees.
The rest of the week will remain hot in the city. Tuesday promises a high of 90 with a chance of thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon. Wednesday will bring slightly cooler temperatures with more stormy weather.
Cooling centers opened across the city over the weekend to allow New Yorkers some reprieve from the heat.
