VARANASI: After being

sworn in

as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time on Sunday evening,

PM

Narendra

Modi

will likely visit Varanasi within a week. The schedule has not been confirmed so far, but an advance security liaison (ASL) team of the Special Protection Group (SPG) toured the possible venue that the PM may visit during his stay in Varanasi.
In 2014, when Modi had won Varanasi seat for the first time, he had arrived in the city the very next day of results on May 17, 2014, while he had arrived in the city on May 27, 2019, after winning the 2019 LS polls, the results for which were declared on May 23, and he was accorded a grand welcome on both occasions.
Though the district administration has not received any intimation regarding PM’s proposed visit so far, the officials expect that the PM may take part in Ganga aarti, offer prayers at

Kashi

Vishwanath temple and attend some other events.
It is expected that the PM's stay would be for three-four hours in the evening. Officials have also taken stock of venues, like Banaras Locomotive Works sports ground, to start preparations in case Modi gives consent to hold any public meeting during his short stay.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s local unit is busy in preparations to reach Delhi for taking part in Modi 3.0 swearing-in ceremony. BJP city chief Vidyasagar Rai said that office-bearers from district unit to division unit president, Varanasi Municipal Corporation’s corporators, MLAs and MLCs will reach Delhi on Sunday to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
“We are expecting that after his swearing-in ceremony, the PM will decide on the date of his arrival in Kashi. Once the date and events during his stay in the city are finalised, we will start preparations for his grand welcome,” Rai added.
