QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Police said they received a call from a family member just before 3 p.m. Sunday that a three-month-old girl was not breathing in a ninth-floor room at the Queens County Inn and Suites on Crescent Street in Long Island City.
The three-month-old girl was rushed to Mount Sinai Queens, where she was pronounced dead. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Police said the three-month-old girl was a migrant living at this migrant shelter with her family.
Members of the Queens District Attorney's office and medical examiner's office were seen entering the hotel Sunday evening.
A spokesperson for the city Department of Social Services said:
“This is an absolutely heart-breaking tragedy. Protecting the health and safety of our clients is our top priority, and non-profit provider staff responded immediately when this incident was reported to ensure appropriate medical support. Our deepest condolences go out to all who have been impacted, and we stand ready to provide the family with every support we can during this incredibly difficult time.”
