Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Google's Sundar Pichai and other tech CEOs join US board on AI risks

, among others are joining the US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) new advisory board which is created to guide the government on safe and secure development of artificial intelligence (AI).
Apart from the board's 22 members, which include CEOs from major technology companies as well as academics, it also has politicians like the governor of Maryland.

The new advisory board will help authorities combat AI-related disruptions that may "impact national or economic security, public health, or safety," the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.
“The Board will help DHS stay ahead of evolving threats posed by hostile nation-state actors and reinforce our national security,” the statement said.

Who are the members of the AI board

In addition to Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Microsoft’s

Satya Nadella

, Alphabet’s

Sundar Pichai

and other leaders in AI and technology, other high-powered members named to the board include the CEOs of Adobe, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Cisco, IBM, Nvidia, Delta Airlines and Northrop Grumman.
“Artificial Intelligence is the most transformative technology of our time, and we must ensure it is deployed safely and responsibly,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in the statement.

The board is to convene for the first time in early May and provide recommendations for the safe adoption of AI "in the essential services Americans depend on every day”.
Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of Homeland Security and chair of the board, said that embedding AI technology within the nation’s essential facilities benefits Americans’ daily lives but also carries significant risks.
“A failure to deploy AI in a safe and secure and responsible manner when it comes to critical infrastructure can be devastating,” Mayorkas said.
