Microsoft
is quietly working on its own version of
Nvidia
's
DLSS
technology along with more advanced colour management tools for
Windows 11
, according to recent insider build discoveries.
Windows 11 new "automatic
super resolution
" feature aims to "use
AI
to make supported games play more smoothly with enhanced details" - very similar to how DLSS leverages deep learning and AI to boost frame rates in games. Microsoft's tech could provide an alternative to Nvidia's offering and competing solutions from
AMD
and
Intel
.
Few details are currently available about how Microsoft's implementation will work and whether specific hardware will be required. Nvidia DLSS relies on tensor cores in GeForce RTX GPUs, while AMD FSR and Intel XeSS run on Radeon and Arc graphics cards respectively. It remains to be seen if Microsoft's super resolutionsuper-resolution will be vendor agnosticvendor-agnostic or need particular components.
