Microsoft Flight Simulator
has announced the
Dune Expansion update
which is now available to download. The expansion is available for free to all owners of Microsoft Flight Simulator titles including ones who were playing the game via Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass.

The Dune Expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator will allow players to pilot the iconic aircraft from the Dune movies, the
Royal Atreides Ornithopter
, over the deserts and through the canyons of the planet of
Arrakis
.
Players can take the Ornithopter through three tutorial missions and six activities, including time trials and a daring rescue mission to save your flight instructor before a massive sandstorm hits. Arrakis will also mark the first time for the Microsoft Flight Simulator series to explore a fictitious world.
The Dune Expansion update coincides with the upcoming release of Dune: Part Two movie on March 1. This is the second time Microsoft Flight Simulator has released an update inspired by a Hollywood film. In 2022, the game released the Top Gun: Maverick expansion.
In a blog post, Xbox also notes that it will set up two life-size Royal Atreides Ornithopter gaming simulators at the Microsoft Experience Centers in London and New York. Visitors can experience flying in the Ornithopter through the Dune Expansion pack and explore the custom hardware on display for a limited time.
Dune-inspired Xbox hardware
Apart from this, Xbox has also unveiled the world’s first floating Xbox Wireless Controller, a custom Dune-inspired Xbox Series S and an Ornithopter-shaped dock for the console. Fans have the chance to win this set of custom hardware by following Xbox on X (formerly Twitter) and retweeting the official Xbox tweets. This giveaway offer will last till March 25 and will be available only for players over 18 years of age.
