Microsoft attempts to force users to choose Edge over Chrome by adding new features like extension support in the Edge on Android platform. The feature is tucked in the 'flag experimental menu' and can be enabled by downloading the beta version of the web browser. This allows users to install extensions on the Edge browser on Android. However, the beta version may have some bugs and stability issues, so it should be installed at the user's own risk.
Despite
Chrome
being the choice of web browser by default for many users, it has not stopped
Microsoft
from attempting to force users to choose Edge over Chrome. Whether this requires them to use random prompts, add restrictions or some new features to lure users.
The most recent attempt comes in the form of a new feature in the Edge on Android platform. The feature in question is
extension support
. It is worth noting that Chrome already supports extensions on Android via Developer Settings.
And, Microsoft has something similar to include the extension support in Edge.
A user named Leopeva64 has shared a couple of screenshots on X that show Edge’s extension support in the pre-release build of Edge version 123.
Right now, the feature is tucked in the “flag experimental menu”. But, it lets users enable extension support and also enables extensions in Edge on the Android platform.
Although Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything officially about the rollout of the extension support. But, we expect it to arrive with the future updates of the
Edge browser
.
Extensions available for Edge as of now are pretty limited and it is expected to get more extensions and add-ons soon or when the feature arrives in the stable build.
To enable the extension support in Edge, you’ll need to download the beta version of the web browser then head to the flag settings menu and enable the option “Android Extensions”.
Once done, restart the browser and then you can install the extensions on the Edge browser on Android.
Do keep in mind that the beta version of the web browser may have some bugs or stability issues. So, install it at your own risk as some websites and features may not work properly.
