2025 is here, and it seems to be an interesting year for space lovers as there are multiple celestial events. In 2025, through the naked eye, we can witness bright Mars,
Wolf Moon
, meteor showers, and Venus show.
Here is the list of celestial events that we humans can witness just by looking up in the sky!
Quadrantid meteor shower
Said to happen on the night of January 3, the Quadrantid meteor shower will pass 40 to 120 shooting stars per hour at their peak after dark.
As the moon will be below the horizon, there will be no interference and it can be easily visible to people in the northern hemisphere.
Wolf moon
In January, the Earth's moon is said to pass close to Mars, and the red planet will completely disappear behind the moon, giving us a red hue. All of North America will be able to witness this wolf moon on January 13 at 9:16 pm EST. The planet will be partially hidden behind the moon for almost 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The venus show
In January and February, a few hours after the sunset, approximately 4 hours, Venus - fondly called the evening star - will be casting its shadow on Earth. It will be seen through binoculars with its beautiful sender crescent shape. The Venus transitions are to take place from March to April.
Total lunar eclipse
On March 14, the moon is said to take a deep red hue because of the total lunar eclipse. The Earth comes in between the sun and the moon, and as sunlight that reaches the moon is filtered by the Earth, only waves of light are passed. This gives the moon a natural glow, making it look like it is painted in red. It is also nicknamed the Blood Moon.
Saturn's ring disappears
The famous ring of the planet Saturn is said to seem to disappear as it turns its edge on March 23. The ring will not look at the north half and be facing the south half making it completely dark and almost impossible to find Saturn's ring even while using a telescope. The ring will be in its disappeared condition for 44 days.
Partial solar eclipse
The partial solar eclipse in 2025 is said to happen on April 8, two weeks after the lunar eclipse and the sun will cast its shadow on the moon and it will be seen best from Canada and 93% of the Sun will be covered. While the moon passes between the sun and Earth, the three celestial bodies are not perfectly aligned during a partial eclipse, leaving some of the sun visible.
Lyrid meteor show
The Lyrid meteor shower will kick start from April 15 and it peaks on April 21 and April 22. The Lyrids stretch through the late spring. The meteor shower occurs as the Earth passes through a trail of rocks and dust in space left behind by the celestial object.
The conjunction of Venus and Jupiter
In August, there will be a beautiful conjunction between the two brightest planets of the solar system. Jupiter will be at magnitude -2 and Venus at magnitude -4 and it will almost appear as one. The planets will be visible to the naked eye an hour before sunrise.
