HELL'S KITCHEN, Manhattan (PIX11) – Metal detectors were set up Wednesday morning at a school in Hell's Kitchen where two students stabbed each other on Tuesday.

The two teenagers, 15 and 17 years old, fought inside the High School of Graphic Communication Arts on West 49th Street, according to authorities. One teen was slashed in the face while the other was stabbed in the torso.

Also on Tuesday, a 15-year-old was slashed in the neck by a 16-year-old armed with a scapel inside a classroom at Evander Childs Educational Campus in the Bronx, according to authorities. An 18-year-old was also stabbed multiple times outside the Queens High School of Teaching the same day, police said.

Greg Floyd, the head of the school safety union, told PIX11 News he expects the violence will only escalate heading into summer.

"This is not isolated, it's an epidemic," he said. "Whether people like it or not, there should be metal detectors in the schools."

Two of the three schools where students were injured by knives did not have metal detectors on Tuesday. The High School of Graphic Communication Arts has installed them as of Wednesday morning.

"The decision to have metal detectors is made by each school leadership team," NYC public school officials told PIX11 News in a statement.
