Katrina Kaif
and
Vijay Sethupathi
starrer '
Merry Christmas
' created quite a buzz ahead of its release on January 12. The film is a thriller drama helmed by
Sriram Raghavan
. However, upon its release, the film didn't achieve a big score.
According to Sacnilk, early estimates suggest that 'Merry Christmas' has earned only Rs 2.55 crore for its opening day. This figure is a cumilation of the film's collection in all three languages - Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Apart from Katrina and Vijay, 'Merry Christmas' also starred Ashwini Kalsekar, Radhika Apte, Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, and Radhika Sarathkumar in key roles.
Speaking about casting Katrina and Vijay in this thriller, director Sriram had told ETimes, "In my mind, I tried various conventional pairings, but some X factor seemed to be missing. Most of the stars had already worked with each other. Since the story is about two strangers meeting on Christmas eve, I wanted an out of the box pairing. Katrina is a glamorous star and Vijay is known for his rooted characters. The opposites attracted me." Hailing her co-star Katrina had shared, "I was really excited to be working with Sriram sir and Vijay. The moment we got together in a room, I think everyone came just as themselves and we were instantly able to connect. The minute Vijay sir started speaking about a scene, it was fascinating for me, I just thought that he is the person who views things in such a unique way; it’s the way he sees stories, the way he sees people.”
