BROOKLYN (PIX11) -- Mega Millions fever is sweeping across Brooklyn!
Tuesday's drawing boasts a staggering jackpot of $893 million, the sixth-largest prize in Mega Millions history. This life-changing sum, with a cash option of $421.4 million, has residents dreaming big.
The excitement comes after a record-breaking 28 consecutive drawings without a winner, leaving everyone fantasizing about what they'd do with such a windfall. The last big winner struck gold back in Dec 2023.
Brooklyn resident Ricky Camilleri, an occasional lottery player, is not shy about his daydreams. "I'd help out my friends with mortgages and loans," he says. "Then, I'd ensure everyone close to me feels financially secure. Donating a large portion to charities is a must, and finally, I would pursue my dream career!"
However, Camilleri acknowledges the reality of the lottery. "Sure, it's fun to dream," he admits, "but winning is tough."
The odds of winning are indeed daunting - a minuscule 1 in 302,575,350. This discourages some players, leading them to seek quicker wins with scratch-off tickets.
"I can get $500 in two minutes and walk away with it," says one Brooklyn resident, highlighting the appeal of scratch-offs.
Jennifer Alfugaha, another Brooklynite, uses a touch of humor to illustrate her point about the odds. "I can't even hit a date," she laughs, "so I don't think my lottery luck is much better!"
Despite her single status, Alfugaha's outlook remains positive. "If I won, I'd definitely share the joy with the people I love," she beams.
While some players have elaborate rituals or lucky numbers, others keep it simple. "I just like quick pick," says one lottery player, expressing a preference for the lottery's random number selection.
For those who miss out on Mega Millions, there's always Powerball! The Powerball jackpot has also climbed to a substantial $687 million, offering a cash value of $327.3 million for Wednesday night's drawing.
