In September 2022, the special vigilance judge in Bhubaneswar convicted Moquim and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 50,000 in connection with a corruption case. The Orissa High Court upheld the conviction in April 2024.

In the 2024 Assembly election, the BJP wrested power in Odisha by winning 78 out of the 147 constituencies, ending the 24-year reign of the BJD government led by Naveen Patnaik.
