Meet Satvik Srivastava from Hardoi, who clinched the third position in the UPPSC PCS examination. In a determined move to clear the PCS examination, Satwik took a pivotal step by resigning from his position in the Railways.
Meet Satwik Srivastava, ex-railway engineer turned UPPSC PCS topper
On Tuesday, the UPPCS 2023 exam results were officially announced, revealing Satwik Srivastava's remarkable achievement. Hailing from Hardoi, Satwik secured the third position. To clear the PCS examination, Satwik made a significant decision to resign from his position in the Railways. Dedication to his studies paid off, leading him to successfully pass the PCS exam and secure the third position.
The news of Satwik's achievement sparked immense joy among his family members, and a wave of congratulatory visits from relatives and neighbours inundated his home.
Satwik Srivastava, the only child of Jagdish Srivastava, a document writer, and Chitra Srivastava, a resident of Mohalla Nabi Purva in Hardoi city, secured third place in the state in the UPPCS results declared on Tuesday.
LEFT ENGINEERING JOB TO CRACK UPPSC PCS
A week before the exam, Satwik made the courageous decision to resign from his railway job to fully focus on his studies. However, facing a setback, he did not qualify for the preliminary examination this time. Viewing it as a challenge, Satwik revamped both his study methods and materials. His determination paid off as he not only cleared the PCS preliminary examination held in May 2023 but also successfully navigated through the mains and interviews, securing the third position in the final results.
"I had the post of Junior Technical Associate in North Central Railway. I had to leave it after some time because I felt that perhaps I was not able to do full justice to it, both with the post and with my studies," says UPPSC topper.
"My parents' entire support was that I should concentrate on my studies and move ahead well, and that was one of his dreams; it was my dream too to move ahead here only by keeping it on hold in civil service," he adds.
PREPARATION STRATEGY OF THE UPPSC PSC TOPPER 2023
In the early stages, Satwik's initial mistake was a lack of awareness about my study sources and methods. The abundance of distractions and the overwhelming volume of online and offline content posed challenges. Many individuals fail to realise that success is often linked to a more focused and limited selection of study materials. "For limited and good content, we have authentic sources. We can read anyone authentic book for each subject and its short notes," he explains.
"Make a strategy, especially for Prelims, and revise the notes again and again, along with picking up any good monthly current affairs magazine or events which come last and a few months before Prelims if you have scored 80 percent in Mains," he adds.
"Embrace the notion that we can effectively tackle both Prelims and Mains simultaneously. Let's structure our day accordingly, allocating 4 hours for Prelims and 6 hours for Mains to create notes. Additionally, dedicate a few hours to answer writing and revision. Consistency in following this daily routine is the key to success," says Satwik.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
His primary education took place in Hardoi only. In the year 2013, he passed the high school examination with a 10 CGPA in St. His engineering was completed in 2020. When he took the UPPCS exam for the first time in 2021, he did not clear the prelims. In May 2022, he was selected for the post of Junior Engineer in Railways. After that, after 14 days of training in Allahabad, he got posted in Banda district. On June 14, his UPPCS prelims exam was held.
SATWIK ATTRIBUTES SUCCESS TO PARENTS
Satwik gives credit for his success to his mother, father as well as his mentor, Ashutosh Srivastava. According to Satwik, even after failing to get Pre in the PCS exam twice and leaving the job in the Railways, his parents always told him to focus on his exams and he also maintained his strong determination due to which he got Pre in the third attempt.
After passing the Mains and then the Interview, he made his family proud by getting third place in the state. "I have obtained the post of Deputy Collector with the third rank in the UPPCL 2023 exam, and the full credit goes to my parents because they have supported me a lot. Apart from this, it goes to Ashutosh Srivastava Sir, who is my mentor," says Satwik.
