NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The mayor’s race is heating up just as Mayor Eric Adams’ approval rating hits a new low, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.
A new poll shows only 20% of voters approve of how Adams is handling his post, while 67% disapprove.
It’s the lowest approval rating for a mayor in nearly 30 years, according to Quinnipiac University.
The news comes as City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams officially announced she’s running for mayor. She spoke at her first official campaign rally Saturday at the Rochdale Village shopping center.
“The trust in City Hall and the focus on public service to New Yorkers has been weakened,” Adrienne Adams said. “New Yorkers are fed up, so it’s time for us to stand up.”
The Hollis, Queens native said if elected, she would invest more money into public safety and mental health programs.
She is one of nine democratic candidates to challenge Mayor Eric Adams in the June primary, including former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is strengthening support for his mayoral bid among the Brooklyn Democratic Party.
“I think my record speaks for itself; look at what I have done in the state and in the city and what I have accomplished,” Cuomo said.
