BEED: Giving the Maharashtra government a breather, quota activist Manoj Jarange said on Saturday that if the government does not meet the
Maratha reservation
demand by January 20 he would launch his final indefinite hunger strike at Mumbai's historic Azad Maidan.
Jarange had said he would reveal his stand on the future of the agitation for Maratha reservation after CM
Eknath Shinde
announced that the reservation demand would be fulfilled by calling a special session in February.
Addressing a large gathering in Beed, Jarange said he would walk from Jalna's Antarwali Sarati to Mumbai and innumerable members of the community would join him along the way. He said the walk to Mumbai should be peaceful and anyone indulging in violence should be handed over to the police.
"If we are compelled to go to Mumbai, we will not return without taking reservation. Men will go to Mumbai. Women members of the community should hold agitations in front of the homes of MLAs," he said.
Jarange said he is firm on getting Kunbi certificates for all members of the community and getting reservation under the OBC category. "Failing to fulfil the reservation promise may lead to the ruining of political careers and ambitions of many," he said Jarange claimed that none of the properties in Beed were targeted by the Maratha community members.
