MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine is calling on the MTA to make bathrooms in subway stations easier to find.
There are currently 63 subway stations with bathroom accessibility, according to the MTA.
"Access to public bathrooms is an issue of equity, public health, sanitation and transportation," Levine said. He suggests that the MTA add more signs on platforms and entrances pointing the way toward a restroom.
Levine also said the MTA could use display screens on newer trains to announce when you're pulling into a station with a bathroom. The screens already show things like elevators and escalators.
He's also calling for a bathroom map, which also displays what restrooms are ADA accessible, on the MTA app.
Levine would also like bathroom hours to be extended past the current 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. timeframe for commuters who use transit during off-peak hours.
