Man who allegedly punched Steve Buscemi held on bail

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The homeless man accused of randomly punching actor Steve Buscemi is being held on $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 insurance bond.

The Manhattan DA's office said they asked for $100,000 cash bail or $300,00 bond.

The prosecutor said in court that 50-year-old Clifton Williams has a prior criminal history that includes assaults in Kentucky and Florida and had only recently arrived in New York.

According to the felony complaint, at 11:30 a.m. on May 8, Williams used a closed fist to punch a 22-year-old man on Third Avenue in Kips Bay. Then, nine minutes later, Williams allegedly went up to Buscemi, who was standing on the sidewalk, and "struck him in the face with a closed fist, causing him to fall to the ground, and causing bleeding to his eye, swelling, bruising, and substantial pain."

According to court documents, Williams "identified himself in the photos and admitted to punching both" victims.
