Man to be charged in alleged attack on 3-month-old boy in East Harlem: NYPD

EAST HARLEM, N.Y. (PIX11) --- A man is in police custody after allegedly attacking a 3-month-old boy and the baby's mother in a Manhattan apartment early Thursday, police said.

The 51-year-old man allegedly hit the infant during a fight with the mom, 26, in the building at East 101st St. in East Harlem at around midnight, according to the NYPD. The boy was taken to the hospital with bruises on the back of the neck and leg, police said.

The mom was also injured during the argument and treated for a cut on the right arm at the scene.

The woman tried to stop the attack and hit the man with a broomstick that broke and punctured his right leg, sources said. Police said the man, believed to be the child's father, was also stabbed in the buttocks.

The man allegedly lied to officers who responded to the incident and told them that he was shot, according to sources.

The charges against the man were pending, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
