CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- Hours after five people were shot during the West Indian Day parade in Brooklyn on Monday, a man was stabbed multiple times near the event, police said.
The 39-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the hands, wrists, and head near 835 Franklin Ave. in Crown Heights at around 7:30 p.m., according to the NYPD. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect took off after the attack and has not yet been caught, police said.
The incident is not believed to be connected to the shooting hours earlier.
A 25-year-old man was fatally shot in the stomach and four other people were injured when gunfire erupted near Franklin Avenue and Eastern Parkway at around 2:30 p.m., according to the NYPD. The victim, Denzel Chan, died at the hospital.
A 69-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, and two other men, ages 36 and 64, were also wounded in the shooting along the parade route, police said. The 36-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
The shooting is believed to have been targeted but the motive was unclear, police said. Sources said the incident was likely gang-related.
The suspect is believed to be in his 20s and was wearing a bandana and a brown shirt. There have been no arrests, as of Tuesday morning.
