BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man was critically injured after being shot in the face at a Bronx NYCHA project on the Fourth of July, according to authorities.
Police received a call for aid at the Fort Independence Street-Heath Avenue houses just before 10 p.m. An unknown assailant fired a gun, hitting a 45-year-old victim, authorities said.
The victim was struck in the face and right shoulder. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The unknown assailant fled the scene and remains at large.
A police investigation uncovered surveillance footage showing a man, believed to be the suspected assailant, entering a building wearing a white shirt, black tennis shoes, and pants and carrying a black-and-white item. He has since fled to an unknown location, and no arrests have been made, police said.
Police say the victim is currently in recovery. Further details were not immediately available.
