FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- Police say they shot a man who charged at them after officers responded to a call of a slashing in Brooklyn late Friday night.
Officers were investigating an incident at 21 Duryea Pl, around 11:40 p.m. in Flatbush, according to authorities. The location is a shelter that provides services for men 18-years-old and older.
Police say they found a 35-year-old man who was slashed, along with a 29-year-old man who began running away.
Officers chased the 29-year-old for about two blocks until they reached the intersection of East 21st St and Beverly Road, officials report.
That's when the man began making multiple movements like he was holding a gun and began running towards the officers, authorities say.
One officer fired multiple shots, hitting the 29-year-old twice in the torso, according to police. The man was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.
Sources tell PIX11 News the man had prior arrests, including one for a slashing in January and another for possession of a loaded firearm.
Authorities say they're continuing to investigate the circumstances around the slashing and the shooting.
