NEW YORK (PIX11) – A man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to the 2019 fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Queens, according to the Queens District Attorney's Office.
Aamir Griffin was mistaken for a gang member when he was shot and killed on a Jamaica playground, prosecutors said. Sean Brown, 21, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, conspiracy and criminal possession of a weapon last month.
Prosecutors said Griffin was playing basketball at the Baisley Park Houses when Brown, a member of the "Money World" gang, fired three shots at him. One of the bullets hit Griffin in the chest, killing him.
Brown was arrested in California by the Fugitive Task Force in 2021.
Violence between the "Money World," "Local Trap Stars" and "Never Forget Loyalty" gangs escalated after Griffin's death, according to prosecutors. There were over 22 shootings between the three gangs, with one being fatal, prosecutors said.
