NEW YORK (PIX11) – Police are searching for a man accused of following and sexually assaulting a woman in Manhattan on Sunday, according to the NYPD.
The suspect allegedly followed the 23-year-old woman into a residential building near Thompson and Prince streets around 4:10 a.m., according to authorities. The victim was walking upstairs to the second floor while the suspect was walking downstairs from the third floor, sources told PIX11 News.
The suspect grabbed the woman and said, "If you scream, I'll shoot you," sources said. He placed her in a chokehold and raped her, police said.
The man fled the location going southbound on Thompson Street. EMS responded and transported the victim to a local hospital for medical evaluation, according to authorities.
The suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with red lettering that forms a heart shape, gray pants with stripes and orange sneakers.
