WOODSIDE, Queens (PIX11) --- A man was punched unconscious during a random attack in a Queens park over Memorial Day weekend, police said.
The suspect punched the 56-year-old man in the face in Lawrence J. Virgilio Playground near 54th Street and 39th Drive in Woodside at around 7:20 p.m. Sunday, according to the NYPD. The victim fell to the ground and lost consciousness. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect then ran off after the attack, police said. There have been no arrests.
There has been a trend of random punches reported in New York City over the past few months, authorities said. Most of the victims in the unprovoked attacks are women.
Brooklyn resident Skiboky Stora, 40, was indicted Tuesday for punching a 23-year-old woman, TikTokker Halley Kate, in the head, elbowing a teenage girl in the head, and shoving a 37-year-old woman in Chelsea in a series of March attacks.
Misdemeanor assaults have increased nearly 7% this year compared to the same time last year, according to the latest NYPD data.
