EAST HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) – The man accused of pushing a fellow subway rider in front of an oncoming train in East Harlem, killing them, has been charged with murder, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Monday at the Lexington Avenue-125th Street subway station. The suspect, identified by police as 24-year-old Carlton Mcpherson, allegedly shoved a 45-year-old man onto the tracks as a northbound No. 4 train approached the station.

The attack was unprovoked, according to authorities. The identity of the victim has yet to be released.

The city is seemingly experiencing a surge of violent crime on the subways in recent weeks. Two people were stabbed on subway trains on Monday.

The deadly shove came just hours after the NYPD announced it was flooding an additional 800 officers into the transit system this week.

Riders told PIX11 News that the violence has them on edge.

The investigation into the shove caused severe train delays in both directions. All train service has since resumed.
